He outlined the programme’s underlying aim of building on the success of the NHSP, by bringing about improvements in health and wellbeing which are clear, focused and targeted towards real needs. He emphasised that Healthy Schools Plus is “determined not to widen the health divide” so the initial focus is on schools where health inequalities are greatest, and institutions offering specialist provision, such as Pupil Referral Units.
