Peter went on to explain that South West Healthy Schools Plus will focus on key issues including healthy weight, teenage pregnancy and sexual health, alcohol and drug issues and emotional health and wellbeing. The overall objectives of the programme are to improve long-term health, reduce health inequalities, increase social inclusion and raise achievement for all.

He confirmed that 350 South West schools have already been recruited for Healthy Schools Plus and Local Programmes are currently working with them to identify key outcomes. This means 15% of the 2,368 schools regionally have signed up; the target is to reach 50% over the next three years.
